Professional

I am a Principal Engineer in North American Quality Systems, Diagnostics & OTA group.

My career as a technology professional spans over 20 years. Most of my early years I have spent as a software engineer (.NET, Java, PHP, Perl), a systems engineer and a database engineer (Relational and NoSQL).

I've created systems and applications that have been extensively used by Toyota Production Engineering for various internal processes from managing prototype vehicle build to tracking issues, improvements, managing and controlling engineering CAD systems (Catia, Delmia, Autoform, AutoCAD, etc.).

I've worked with "desktop" operating systems (Windows, Unix, Linux) and mobile operating systems (Andorid and iOS). Physical and Virtual. Middleware (Apache Tomcat, Weblogic Portal, etc.).

My recent hands-on development included work in AWS cloud: serverless (Lambda, Typescript and NodeJS), Containers, NoSQL, Quicksight and in Microsoft Azure cloud.

While I still enjoy hands-on technology work, several years ago I have moved from mostly hands-on development and engineering to strategic work: Principal Engineer. In that capacity I've worked on some interesting projects/programs. I've laid foundations of the technology transformation programs of legacy systems. I've led strategic technology initiatives. I've worked with the emerging groups and teams. Presently I am leading Toyota's North American Quality Systems in wired and OTA vehicle updates in design and development of systems to support these important initiatives. Some more exciting and interesting work that's worth mentioning is a recent Toyota/Aurora robotaxi project (see more below). I have also worked on a project that led to a patent.

I am a problem solver, leader and an innovator who uses technology to lay the path for what's to come.

Toyota / Aurora Robotaxis

I have been leading the design and development of North America Quality systems component of this groundbreaking project for the past year and a half.

As the work shifts to the next, more exciting phase of the project, my work on this project continues in the role of Principal Engineer in North American Quality (Diagnostics & OTA).

Innovation & Patent

I started working with a group of talented Toyota engineers from Information Systems and Product Quality & Service Support back in 2019 to envision an innovative application of Augmented Reality to make servicing (calibration) of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) easier and faster.

Idea won in Toyota Innovation Fair (September 2019.) and the patent had been filed in August 2019.

Systems And Methods Of Calibrating Vehicle Sensors Using Augmented Reality

  • U.S. Patent No.: US 11,118,948 B2
  • Patent issued: Sept 14, 2021.

Next Generation Vehicle Diagnostics

Leading North America Quality Systems in the next generation global vehicle diagnostics and wired software update system.

Goals of performance improvements, complete security and improved customer experience are some of the goals. Ultimate goal is to lay foundations for modern diagnostics and vehicle updates for the changing automotive technology and platform landscape.

Strategy

Assigned to a newly created IS Strategy Group for the 100+30 day IS Transfomation initiative from July to October 2019. Worked on gathering, understanding and merging strategies from the following North American Divisions into first North American IS Strategy:

  • R&D
  • Production Engineering and Manufacturing
  • Quality
  • IS Infrastructure
  • Information Security
Continuing to be involved with targeted R&D strategy initiatives into 2020+.
